Are you at that age where you are dealing with aging parents? Are you getting close to retirement and not sure when you should take Social Security or Medicare? How should you be managing your retirement funds? What are the tax implications? There are so many questions that come up as you enter your 60s. It is an exciting time to travel, enjoy friends and family as well as look at the next phase of life – the Go Go Years!
Making a Change
I’m Wendy, a mother, grandmother and someone who retired during Covid as part of the Great Resignation. At 59, I quit my job as the CFO of an elementary school district. Prior to working at a school district, I was a banker for 25 years. Talk about slowing down, it was an abrupt stop!
The first 90 days were brutal. I walked around the house wondering if I made the right decision. I was bored. Now I had time. Time to think. Time to re-evaluate life. Time to decide on my priorities instead of some revenue goal mandated by corporate.
Today, two years into this transition, I have a very full life. I volunteer with the Southwest Chapter of Breakthrough T1D as a Board Member. I manage the finances of both my 83 year old mother and 86 year old uncle. Both were with a financial advisor that put their funds in a “style-box” and never reviewed it again (Note: I talk about this in a variety of the Blogs). I manage the financials of my husband’s company. And in 2024 I was blessed with two beautiful grandchildren.
Insights for you
My goal is to provide you with useful information on what I learn throughout this later life journey. When to take social security? How to have affordable health care before Medicare? Should we downsize? How my husband and I made a decision to have prostrate surgery versus some of the other treatments. Oh, and what about a trip to the Amalfi Coast and Sicily?
I hope you follow me on this journey as I provide insights on answers to many questions that come up as you move toward the “Go Go” Years!
